Nigeria qualify for World Cup

Nigeria – Italy’s next friendly opponents – have qualified for the 2014 World Cup, beating Ethiopia 2-0.

The Super Eagles are celebrating after today’s victory, which gives them the play-off 4-1 on aggregate.

A Victor Moses penalty and a strike from ex-Inter and Chievo striker Victor Obinna secured this second leg success.

They are also African Champions, the first time that title has coincided with World Cup participation since 1994.

Nigeria won the Under-17 World Cup too, so have a new generation of stars coming through.
