Sunderland striker Fabio Borini’s agent confirmed a meeting with Inter and will “evaluate a return to Italy in January.”

The forward is owned by Liverpool, but struggling for playing time while on loan at Sunderland.

“Does Walter Mazzarri appreciate him? I was in the Inter headquarters a few days ago, but there was no formal request,” agent Marco De Marchi told Calciomercato.com.

“I can say that if Fabio’s situation doesn’t change in the next month, we could evaluate a return to Italy so that he can find the consistency he needs ahead of the World Cup. Borini would absolutely love to take part in that tournament.

“Liverpool will not let go of the player definitively, so it would still be a loan spell. He is a modern striker, has an eye for goal and is appreciated by many in Italy and beyond.”

The 22-year-old has scored one Premier League goal in seven games for Sunderland this season.
