Higuain stunned by CL situation

Gonzalo Higuain is struggling to believe that his Napoli side could go out of the Champions League with 12 points.

The Azzurri need a win against Arsenal on Wednesday, but that may still not be enough depending on the result of Marseille versus Borussia Dortmund.

If Napoli and the Germans both win, they, plus Arsenal, would finish the group level on 12 points. It would then go down to head-to-head clashes and goal difference.

“We have to just think about winning our tie,” the Argentine striker told Sky Sport 24. “If we win and still go out with 12 points then that will just be misfortune.

“I’ve never seen a side go out of the competition with nine or 12 points – this is really a horrible situation.”

Napoli have struggled of late and they are now third in Serie A, eight points adrift of leaders Juventus.

“We can win a title this season,” added the summer signing from Real Madrid. “We want to make the fans happy.

“This is a really important week for us, but we need to remain calm and get to Wednesday with a cool head and a hot heart.

“This will give us the possibility to win the game. We’ll look at what is happening in Marseille, but we can’t worry too much about what others are doing.”
