Fiorentina have confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi has suffered a sprain and second degree damage to the medial collateral ligament in his knee.
It was feared that the striker had injured the cruciate ligaments in his right knee for a third time in his career on Sunday evening, following a heavy challenge by Livorno’s Leandro Rinaudo.
However, on from early reports, La Viola have confirmed that tests carried out today have ruled this out and instead shown that the 26-year-old has suffered a sprain to the joint and second degree damage to the medial collateral ligament.
The club report that Dr Richard Steadman, who operated on Rossi’s second cruciate ligament injury, will perform tests in the next few days in order to evaluate the extent of damage and prognosis.
