Jasmin Kurtic admitted to thinking about another 7-0 defeat when Sassuolo went 2-0 down to Milan at the weekend, until Domenico Berardi came to the rescue.

The Neroverdi played out a remarkable 4-3 win over the Rossoneri on Sunday evening, which came about despite the early set-back of falling two goals behind.

“You don't play against clubs such as Milan every day, moreover this derby was special,” Kurtic has reflected of the encounter to Ekipa this week.

“Of course we didn't expect to be losing 2-0 after 15 minutes, but it didn't distract us. We knew that both goals were more by chance and that we could still make a comeback.

“At 2-0 of course I was remembering Inter and their seven goals [scored in Week 4], but then we scored our first goal and started to think about other things.

“It was a game where we were able to do everything after our first goal. Whether it was my best game in Serie A or not, I am not bothered, because I leave assessments to others.

“My only duty is to give my best at training sessions and in games.

“I know that [President] Giorgio Squinzi is a Milan fan, but before the game he still came into the dressing room and wished us luck anyway.

“But not only the President, many of Sassuolo’s residents cheer for Milan, so there were more Milan fans at the stadium. But that was only an extra motivation for us.”

The game was settled by Domenico Berardi’s four goals for Sassuolo.

“I am very happy for Berardi and his four goals. He confirmed he is an excellent player, but he has to remain humble, listen to the advice of more experienced players and he will go very, very far.”
