Michel Bastos has admitted that Rudi Garcia played a huge part in his decision to join Roma until the end of the season.

The Brazilian winger signed for the Giallorossi on a six-month loan earlier this week, and the former Lille man has insisted that the Coach played a big part in his move to Stadio Olimpico.

"I've stayed in touch with Garcia ever since I left Lille,” Bastos told a Press conference.

“He was an important person for me who helped me a lot.

"Garcia being here did influence my choice – that and the fact that Roma is a great club. I want to stay here for several years.”

The Selecao international then commented on his initial thoughts on the Roma fanbase, where he will play under Garcia and his fitness.

"I thought the fans were amazing [when he watched against Juventus in the Coppa Italia]. They live for football here and that's something we Brazilians love. Plus we won!"

“My position? I can play full-back, in midfield or attack. I want to play football and win with this team

“I'm here to help my new team. I don't know where I'll play – that's up to the Coach to decide"

“I'm working hard to get fully fit again as soon as possible. I think it will take another 10 days or so.”

Bastos concluded by remarking on the idea of playing in a Rome dervy.

“The derby? A special game for both clubs. I know what to expect, I'm ready for it. I'll work hard to help Roma.

“We can keep improving and have an excellent end to the season. Big gap with Juventus but we must try to catch them.”
