Napoli have emerged as surprise candidates to sign Moroccan-born left-back Achraf Lazaar from mid-table Serie B side Varese.

The 21-year-old had seemed destined to move to current Serie B leaders Palermo but both Rafa Benitez’s side and Roberto Donadoni’s Parma have today been listed as interested parties.

“He will definitely leave Varese,” the club’s sporting director Mauro Milanese told Radio Crc.

“Whether he’ll go to Napoli or not I don’t know, but Parma also want to meet us.

“If he doesn’t go to Palermo, a deal would need to be agreed quickly with someone else and a bid would need to be made that is at least equal to the one we have already accepted.”
