Genoa forward Alberto Gilardino has spoken of his desire to make Azzurri Coach Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup squad.

The 31-year-old has found the net 11 times in Serie A this season and hopes that this will not have gone unnoticed.

“I hope to continue playing as I am and be ready for June,” Gilardino said. “If I am fit and I deserve it hopefully I can realise my target of getting to the World Cup.

“For sure, in these next few months I will give my absolute maximum for Genoa.”

The forward also spoke about his team’s upcoming game with Napoli.

“Thanks to our league position we can go to Napoli and play our own game.

“We have reacted well to previous difficulties and shown great character.”
