Lopez had looked as if he’d be sacked and replaced by assistant manager Ivo Pulga, but then in a shock turnaround President Massimo Cellino kept him and fired Pulga instead.

“We are concentrated, but not anxious. It is not a dramatic situation,” said Lopez after losing five of the last six games.

“We got everything wrong against Livorno, but the lads proved they learned the lesson. Over the week we worked hard and are ready to face Inter.

“Playing this sort of match is always wonderful, it’s just a shame that it comes at a difficult time for us. The objective is to play open football without clamming up too much at the back.

“We know Walter Mazzarri is a master at getting his teams organised. It’s important that we get back to scoring more goals, because that’s the only way to win games.”

Daniele Conti starts a two-match ban after his red card for dissent, while Davide Astori is not 100 per cent fit.
