Torino defender Cesare Bovo doesn’t want fans to be disappointed if his side don’t make the Europa League this season.

Il Toro have been one of the revelations of the campaign, and currently sit in eighth place, just three points behind Verona in sixth.

However, the centre-back has urged everyone at the club not to make that their main focus this term.

“I don’t think it’s right to focus on that as a goal,” he told Tuttosport. “And I say this from personal experience.

“At Parma we were fighting relegation in the League but managed to get to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

“But with Palermo, once we qualified, we were eliminated straight away because we wanted to focus on the League.

“If we get to Europe, it has to be to try and win it, not just to say we’ve played in that competition.

“For this reason, I think it’s right that this year we try to keep on growing as a team, and understand where we can go, without the anxiety of relegation.

“At the beginning of the season, to think about Torino in Europe was ridiculous.

“We’re having a great season, but we need more time to plan for things like the Europa League.”
