His first came within the opening three minutes, then he added to his tally late on in a 4-1 victory at the Vicente Calderon.

“We need to enjoy this and not worry about who we get in the next round,” he told reporters after the Champions League Round of 16 tie.

“They’ll all be pretty good in the quarter-final. It wasn’t easy tonight, but we played a great match. We have done ourselves proud.”

The centre-forward also spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle.

“I think the strength of our team is that we know our limitations, so we work as a unit and all stick together.

“We hope to reach the Final, but we know that is extremely difficult as there are much stronger sides than us out there. We’ll take it one game at a time and hope for the best.”

Diego Costa is Brazilian and has played for the Selecao in a friendly, but has chosen to play for Spain now instead.

“In order to go to the World Cup I must play well with my team, train hard and get results. If I continue like this, then I think I have a good chance of getting there.”
