Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli insists that no outfield player is assured of a place in his World Cup squad for this summer.

The former Fiorentina tactician said that this includes Mario Balotelli and that the door remains open for Antonio Cassano, if only slightly.

“I still haven’t decided anything,” Prandelli said to Rai Sport. “The only guaranteed starter is Buffon.

“As far as the rest of the 23-man squad goes, all of the other players are under observation, including Balotelli.

“The door for Cassano has never been closed, but it is not greatly open either.

“We know that Antonio is a great talent who makes his teas play well, but we also know he is a player who we would need to play in an organised system.

“We wouldn’t be able to give responsibility just to him.

“The only starter for me is Buffon, for the rest of them we will have to assess their physical and mental condition nearer the time.”
