Italy staff confirm they’ll set up “something artificial” to get players accustomed to Brazilian humidity at the World Cup.

Many European nations are concerned that the 2014 tournament will be very hard on the players, particularly in the Amazon areas.

“We have a group of tests that we proposed since the start with the clubs, but the real planning for the World Cup will depend on the tests we perform in April, as those can predict the condition of the players at the end of the season,” said Cesare Prandelli’s assistant manager Renzo Casellato in a Press conference.

“We had players arrive before the Euros at the top both physically and psychologically, while last year the athletes were in a less positive situation. We don’t know what situation we’ll find at the end of this season.”

Italy were at the Confederations Cup last summer and therefore had the chance to test out the conditions they’ll find in June.

“This time around, the humidity could be a critical factor. This is why we gathered information, including athletes who were at the Olympics in Beijing with a similar humidity factor, and tried to structure something new for fitness training.

“We have to become accustomed to working in conditions of humidity, which we don’t have here in Italy, so we’re considering setting up something artificial.”
