“During the second half we got deeper and deeper, had a moment in which I changed the tactical system because Inter had adjusted and they were pushing to the very end.
“From the hour mark onwards it was a very difficult game and we were suffering, though that was understandable against a side like Inter. We did well to defend, had a bit of luck and if we had always shown that attitude then I think we’d now have four or five more points that could’ve allowed us to look at Europe.
“That won’t be the case now, so our campaign won’t be as scintillating as the last three in a row.”
Guidolin explained why he left Antonio Di Natale and Gianpiero Pinzi on the bench.
“Every match is important. I evaluated the fitness levels among other things, as Di Natale and Pinzi aren’t youngsters, while I also wanted a stronger midfield and hoped to make more of Muriel’s pace on the counter-attack.
“We played at Roma and had the same approach as our first half here at San Siro, but scored two goals and conceded three. We discussed it and decided it was important to be more solid at the back.
“Of course we can’t always survive being under siege for 20-30 minutes like we did today, but when you are under siege all you can do is batten down the hatches.”

“Only time will tell. My collaborators and I made a brave decision 10 rounds ago, in a crucial game against Bologna when Brkic was unable to play. We chose this 17-year-old because he seemed to have the calm and the talent to deal with it.
“Now it’s not difficult to keep picking him! He has gained more confidence with each game and the future belongs to him.
“He is a very calm, humble lad with a good family and has his head on his shoulders. We hope he can go as far as possible, as he certainly has what it takes.”
