Bologna’s apparent reluctance to sack Davide Ballardini is reportedly because Stefano Pioli’s return in his place has been blocked.

The Felsinei continue to linger above the relegation zone after a second consecutive defeat in Week 31 at home to Atalanta.

Whilst it has continued speculation that Coach Ballardini’s future on the bench is limited, today it is understood that the delay in reaching a decision is based on reasoning that a return for Pioli, who Ballardini only replaced in January, is not on the cards.

Previously thought as in contention to return to the post, reports now are that President Albano Guaraldi has ruled out Pioli’s comeback because rapport with the 48-year-old has still not improved from his initial sacking two months ago.

It is also understood that some of the Bologna players were not fond of Pioli’s working methods when in charge.
