Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli has explained his reasons for not including Inter’s Jonathan in his 42-man test squad.

The 28-year-old was born in Brazil and Prandelli says it would take too long for the required documentation to be processed to enable him to play for the Azzurri.

He also accused the player of having not yet shown a clear desire to play for Italy.

“To call up a player like Jonathan to the national team you need seven months to obtain a document,” Prandelli told reporters.

“It’s not the same situation as with Romulo.

“There is also another problem. I have always asked the players to express themselves and to say ‘I want to play for Italy and only Italy.’

“Jonathan has not done this.”
