Federico Bernardeschi admits he faces a difficult task to force his way into Fiorentina’s first team next season.

The 20-year-old has been in impressive form on loan at Crotone this term, earning him a surprise call up to the Italy squad to undergo physical testing last week.

“I didn’t expect it, especially at the start of the year,” Bernardeschi told Sky when asked about his Azzurri experiences.

“I was in my room relaxing when the Crotone secretary called me and told me I was going to be called by Prandelli.

“Buffon is from Carrara like me and hugged me a couple of times. It was a great feeling.

“Fiorentina? I still haven’t spoken to Montella. They have a lot of great players and it will be difficult to play and stay in the team.

“I am young and from a personal point of view I need to play as much as possible.”
