The 24-year-old suffered bruising to his torso when he collided with his own goalkeeper during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Crotone.

On the journey back home, Ligi started to have serious breathing difficulties and was rushed to hospital.

Crotone released a statement confirming he underwent emergency surgery and is now under observation.

It is very similar to the injury sustained by Napoli winger Christian Maggio, who needed an operation on a collapsed lung and has still not made his return to the field six weeks later.

It’s reported Ligi’s Crotone teammates insisted on staying at the hospital overnight until they knew he was going to be alright.
