Stefano Colantuono said Atalanta striker Marko Livaja “realises he did something stupid” and is welcomed back against Genoa.

The Orobici host Genoa tonight at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia, kicking off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT). Click here for a match preview.

Livaja ran into trouble yet again last week, this time for insulting fans via Facebook after he had already hurled abuse at them from the touchline.

“Livaja realises he did something stupid,” shrugged Colantuono when asked about the disciplinary situation.

“We want to win, but not so we can put the icing on the cake of a great season. Our cake already has plenty of icing on it.

“It’d be nice to set a new club record for points, but if we don’t then I still have the old record of 52 points.”

Atalanta had been in the running for the Europa League, but three consecutive defeats put paid to those ambitions.

“We are not ready to compete for the top positions. We are going through a growth process and in future hopefully we will be up there, but not for now.

“German Denis is representative of the team and the moment we’re going through, as he kept us going all season and inevitably is now feeling tired.”
