Claudio Marchisio admits Juventus have one hand on the Scudetto after a win at Sassuolo. “We’re nearly there.”

The midfielder scored in tonight’s 3-1 victory, fighting back from an early Simone Zaza strike, and the celebrations at the Mapei Stadium were far more than for a simple win.

“The celebration is because we need two points from three games. It was truly a difficult game for the weather, the turf and Sassuolo who put us under a lot of pressure,” Marchisio told Sky Sport Italia.

Juventus face Roma in two rounds and the gap is eight points with nine available, so one point might not be enough.

If the two teams were to finish level, the title would be decided by their head-to-head record, which is still to be determined.

“This match reflects our season, as we got through with character and determination. We’re nearly there.

“It was an important goal, just as all of them were today. I told Andrea Pirlo on a pitch like this it’s always better to play it first time.”

Juve can secure the title against Atalanta next Monday evening, but on Thursday they host Benfica in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final.

“Now we are close to another objective that we really care about, so have to be focused on that. We already proved in Portugal that we are improving in Europe and we’ll give our all with home advantage.”

Benfica won the first leg 2-1 last Thursday.
