Garcia: 'Loss doesn't change Roma'

Rudi Garcia insists the defeat to Juventus “doesn’t change the extraordinary season” Roma have had.

The showdown at the Olimpico had been moving towards a goalless draw before Daniel Osvaldo netted deep into stoppages.

“We had the best chance to score and didn’t take it. When it’s 0-0 anything can happen,” Coach Garcia told Sky Sport Italia.

“This doesn’t change the extraordinary season we’ve had, I am truly happy with this campaign and hope we can set this appointment to face Juve again next year.”

Morgan De Sanctis was injured, so Polish 23-year-old goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski had his first Serie A start.

“We knew he was very good, but he needs to play so we can see how he handles the pressure. Tonight in front of 60,000 people against the Serie A leaders was a tough test and he passed it.”

Mattia Destro returned after a four-match ban and struggled to make an impact, as his World Cup call is still in the balance.

“It’s only normal after a four-match ban to not be in perfect shape. A few of my players were lacking match fitness, including Michel Bastos, and it showed.

Miralem Pjanic has signed a contract extension and Roma will now negotiate a new deal with Garcia.

“This is not the time to talk about that. I can’t wait to run round the pitch and thank the fans, because they deserve it. Right, I have to go and celebrate!”
