“It was important to reach the Europa League, but we didn’t manage it for various different reasons,” said Reja in his Press conference.

“We had several opportunities to win, especially on home turf, but kept faltering. I hoped for the performance of a lifetime against Inter last week, but unfortunately I had to change tactics and injuries took their toll.

“I have to admit this was not a positive season for Lazio.”

Reja only took over during the Christmas break after Vladimir Petkovic was fired for agreeing terms with the Swiss FA.

“Next season’s objectives depend only on us. With the right results and quality on the field, we can gain credibility and put together a strong squad.

“We want to make a competitive team that will fight for the top positions. The club is working to find players suited to Lazio.

“Antonio Candreva is important for us and speaking to him I know he’s happy to stay, so there shouldn’t be any problems.

“My future? Rumours come and go, as every day a different Coach is linked to Lazio. I have a direct rapport with director Igli Tare and so we don’t need many meetings.

“I haven’t seen President Claudio Lotito for a while, but at the start of next week we will meet up and talk about the future.”
