Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle says Viola striker Giuseppe Rossi was ready to go to the World Cup in Brazil.

The player was part of Italy’s provisional 30-man squad for the tournament but was controversially left out of Cesare Prandelli’s final 23-man selection.

While the Azzurri Coach insisted taking Rossi would have been too much of a risk due to his lack of match sharpness, the Artemio Franchi chief thinks there are qualities more important than sheer physical fitness.

“You should have asked this question to my brother Andrea,” Della Valle said at a publicity event.

“The CT Prandelli has the honour of managing the national team.

“Rossi is a great player. He is very generous and was ready to go. What matters most is the attitude of a player on the pitch, as opposed to the predictions of a hundred professors and a thousand mothers!”
