Mancini explains Gala departure

Roberto Mancini has explained the reason for his departure from Galatasaray, saying the club’s targets are different to when he first arrived.

The Italian Coach took over at the Turkish side in September last year following their poor start to the season.

During his time in Istanbul he presided over Champions League progression, a Turkish Cup win and a second place finish in the League.

However, it has today been announced he is leaving and, in light of the news, the fomer Inter and Manchester City boss released a statement thanking the club’s President, players and fans.

“As a Coach I understand the demands of my club,” Mancini said. “When I accepted the post of Galatasaray Coach the targets were different.

“In these eight months, though I came in during a season that had already been partly damaged, I have done my job with passion and in constant pursuit of victory.

“This was followed by Champions League qualification, the Turkish Cup and second place in the League.

“With regret, I leave Istanbul and the fans, which are both splendid. I give an affectionate goodbye to the President, the team and everyone I have worked with. They worked with talent and loyalty.”
