Chile Coach Jorge Sampaoli praised his players’ efforts following their 2-0 World Cup defeat to Holland.

The South Americans were already guaranteed a place in the Last 16 of the tournament before kick-off this afternoon but, following defeat today, will now likely face Brazil in the first knockout round.

“Unfortunately we didn’t find the arguments to equalise,” Sampaoli said of the encounter with the Dutch in Sao Paulo.

“It was a very close match to try and get back in and make changes but we didn’t give up and the players put in a great effort.

“The Netherlands sat back and we looked for an equaliser but it was very complicated.

“We wanted to be top but now we have to think of Group A and what comes next.”
