They added another celebration to the mix, giving 43-year-old goalkeeper Mondragon a run-out to become the oldest ever player in a World Cup match.
“Faryd has been a very important player for us, so we gave him the chance to play a couple minutes so he can be recorded as the oldest at a World Cup,” confirmed Pekerman.
“It was a good performance and I am happy. These are the fruits of our labour for a team that worked hard and a country that supported us.
“Uruguay are going to be a very tough opponent, but we are confident and want to move forward.”
