Outgoing Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi is confident Antonio Cassano will remain a Gialloblu player come next season.

The playmaker was in excellent form throughout the Serie A campaign, helping the club finish sixth in the League and earning himself a place in Italy’s World Cup squad.

“He has two years on his contract, I think he will stay,” Ghirardi commented to reporters. “He is a particular person, if he wants to stay at Parma we will have him with open arms.”

The Gialloblu chief was also asked about the Azzurri’s shock Group Stage elimination, confirmed yesterday after a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay.

“I regret it. I’m very sorry for my boys, sorry for Cesare Prandelli but that’s how it has gone.

“But I am sorry for Cassano, for Marco Parolo and for Paletta.”
