Italy legend Gigi Riva urged Cesare Prandelli to reconsider his resignation. “He couldn’t have done more with these players.”

The Coach quit straight after the 1-0 defeat to Uruguay sealed Italy’s first round exit from the World Cup.

“I urge Prandelli to reconsider, as these are the players and he couldn’t have done much more with them,” Riva told news agency ANSA.

“The truth is that those paying for this with their resignations are the ones who are least responsible: Prandelli and FIGC President Giancarlo Abete.

“Prandelli was born to be the Azzurri Coach.”

Former striker Riva had for years been part of the Italy staff who accompanied players on international tournaments.

He pulled out of the job ahead of the World Cup in Brazil due to health concerns.
