Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah defends his decision to ban Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari after World Cup elimination.

The two players were thrown out of the squad ahead of today’s 2-1 defeat to Portugal for an alleged fight, although Boateng posted on Twitter that they were “friends forever.”

The former Milan attacking midfielder insisted it was Appiah who had insulted him rather than the other way round.

"The decision to send two players home is to do with disciplinary issues,” assured Appiah to FIFA.

“At this level you look at the team, not just one player. Anything that will benefit the team, you have to look at that, and that resulted in the decision we took this morning.

“The letter issued was a suspension, if they are performing well they could be invited back to the national team.

“No Coach would like to be in this situation. Every Coach would love to focus on their games. My contract has not ended yet. Many of this team are very young. We started building this team two years ago. I’m looking to build this team for the future.”

Ghana were eliminated from the World Cup, having failed to secure a win in Group G.
