Hitzfeld: 'My career ends here'

Ottmar Hitzfeld retired after Switzerland’s last-gasp defeat to Argentina. “I am proud of my career.”

The Coach had already announced he would bow out after this World Cup in Brazil and ex-Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic signed the contract to take over in January.

“My work as a Coach ends here,” Hitzfeld told reporters after the 1-0 loss in Sao Paulo.

“I am proud of my career. I’ll work for TV – at least I don’t lose matches when I work on TV.

“I have a quiet life in front of me.”

There was sadness around this game, as Hitzfeld’s brother died in hospital last night.
