Capello blasts youth academies

Fabio Capello said some youth team Coaches in Italy “should be locked up” and are to blame for the World Cup debacle.

The current Russia tactician slammed the culture of forming players from a very young age to ignore technique.

“The youth sector needs to be a factory for players, teaching then technique more than tactics and this clearly emerged at the World Cup,” Capello told Gazzetta Regionale.

“Instead we see Coaches who teach tactics to 10-year-old children. Some characters should be locked up.

“There ought to be a system where the great Coaches are paid for the talents they produce. There needs to be a directive, a style of thinking and an overall consistent vision.

“There are moments when talents are born and others where they aren’t, but the truth is that in Italy young players struggle to get space.

“We should copy from Spain and Germany, so B Teams must be obligatory. It is a team that allows an 18-year-old to face up to a real competitive level.

“What if I were called to help? No, I have other problems on my mind.”
