Roma defender Leandro Castan has claimed that words mean nothing and that his team have to do their talking on the pitch.

The capital club are widely seen as genuine title challengers this time around, but the Brazilian has insisted that Rudi Garcia’s men are just focusing all their efforts on doing well in games – not Press conferences.

“We had a good season last time and have to remember how far we’ve come,” he told reporters.

“But we now have to win something. Words mean nothing – we have to prove what we can do on the pitch.

“We’re a strong team and there’s no doubt that this year we are competing for the title.”

The centre-back then commented on Mehdi Benatia’s future, with the former Udinese man linked with Manchester City.

“I don’t know what he will do, but I hope he stays with us.”
