Dino Zoff has backed Antonio Conte to make Italy a competitive international team once again very soon.

Conte is set to succeed Cesare Prandelli, who resigned as Azzurri boss after this summer’s World Cup, on a two-year contract.

“I had him as a player and even then you could see his capabilities,” Zoff said of the new CT, whom he coached at both Juventus and the Azzurri.

“He won three League titles in great style in Italy and I think the decision is very apt.
