Verona director Giovanni Gardini confirmed “we like Nico Lopez” and want to get him from Udinese.

The Uruguayan started his Serie A career at Roma, but struggled to make an impact and was sold to Udinese last year.

Still failing to notch up much playing time at the Stadio Friuli, the Uruguay Under-20 international has scored an impressive 10 goals in 16 caps for his country.

“We like Nico Lopez and are following him with particular attention, but he belongs to another club,” Verona director general Gardini told Rai Radio 1.

“We need to figure out what could be the interlocking interests between us and Udinese. We have ideas, we’re evaluating alternatives and want to find players suitable for our style of football.

“It is also important that the player is motivated to play at a club like Verona.”

The plan is to bring in Nico Lopez on loan with an option to buy for €15m.
