Trap: 'Balotelli, don't waste it'

Giovanni Trapattoni advised Mario Balotelli ahead of his Liverpool move. “You’re suddenly old and forgotten.”

The veteran Coach spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the Milan striker’s troubled career and imminent £16m switch to Anfield.

“When the right train goes by, you have to get on it. It can happen once, twice, three times. Not a thousand.

“Suddenly you can find yourself old and forgotten. Mario is riding an uncontrollable powerboat, he mustn’t waste this moment of his life.

“Above all, his agent Mino Raiola must not see him only as a goldmine to be taken advantage of, but help him understand his mistakes.

“Milan have some talented players. I bet this season we’ll see the explosion of Stephan El Shaarawy on the scene.”

Pippo Inzaghi has to take over at Milan in his first senior management position, but Trapattoni has faith.

“Pippo will have an advantage in his first steps as a Coach: I had Giampiero Boniperti at my side, he’ll have Adriano Galliani. These are people who live football.”
