Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti reveals Fernando Torres might not have started in Parma even without his injury.

It was not clear whether Torres would’ve made his Serie A debut or Giacomo Bonaventura, but the ex-Chelsea striker suffered an ankle injury in training that ruled him out.

“We had a doubt, as both players were in good shape,” Tassotti told Sky Sport Italia.

“One is a pure centre-forward and the other more versatile, but our choice was forced upon us by the injury.”

Bonaventura arrived on transfer deadline day from Atalanta” data-scaytid=”10″>Atalanta and will be used on the left, but the door is open for a switch to the right flank.

“He has only been with us for a few days. We want to see if he can play more internally too, but he has always played on the left and will continue to do so for the moment.

“Pippo Inzaghi has always said he likes players on the reverse side, so left-footers on the right flank. We’ll see and decide based on each situation.

“We are happy with the spirit that has been forged within this team and we think that’s what allowed us to win against Lazio” data-scaytid=”13″>Lazio.

“It’s obvious we still have a few problems, but that attitude helped us to get the three points.

“Pippo has only recently stopped playing and everyone loves him. He is still acclaimed like Milan’s hitman. I’m sure he’d have liked to play tonight!”

Tassotti was also asked about Daniele Bonera, picked ahead of Colombia international Cristian Zapata this evening.

“Bonera is a centre-back in our few who can work as a full-back occasionally. He has now returned to his role, that is all. We thought he was better suited to this game than Zapata.”
