Gomez out for three weeks

Fiorentina’s poor luck with their strikers continues, as Mario Gomez has been ruled out for the next three weeks through injury.

The Viola, who are without Giuseppe Rossi for a few months with another knee issue, will have to again also do without his German strike counterpart for a period too.

Gomez, who missed a majority of last season with a problematic knee injury of his own, has been confirmed as having suffered a first-degree strain to his right thigh.

Picked up in the closing stages of the weekend match with Atalanta, the 29-year-old is confirmed by Fiorentina as facing three weeks out, with follow-up tests on the issue due in 10 days’ time.

This rules the striker out of a potential six or seven fixtures between League and Europe for his club, as well as contention for Germany’s October internationals.
