Milan confirmed Marco van Ginkel, on loan from Chelsea, has suffered ligament damage to his ankle.
The Dutch international midfielder made his Serie A debut in last night’s 2-2 draw with Empoli.
He lasted less than half-an-hour before being stretchered off with an ice pack strapped to his right ankle.
Today Milan released a statement confirming Van Ginkel suffered a sprain with ligament damage.
The extent of the injury will be determined following more tests.
It is a disastrous start for the 21-year-old, who was already ruled out from September 2013 to March 2014 by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
