Zdenek Zeman believes Cagliari played “better than against Inter” despite their 1-0 defeat to Verona.

It was a chaotic match that saw Victor Ibarbo and Luca Ceppitelli miss several sitters, while Hellas hit the bar twice and had a Luca Toni goal incorrectly disallowed.

The deadlock was eventually broken by Panagiotis Tachtsidis, who considers Zeman his mentor.

“I am happy for him, but not for us,” Zeman muttered to Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a great goal and there was little we could do about that shot. It’s a shame we didn’t score in the first half when we created so many chances. After the break we did quite well, but Hellas were better.”

This result follows a shock 4-1 victory over Inter at San Siro, but Zeman is not disappointed.

“In terms of performance I thought the first half was excellent, better than against Inter, but if you create that many opportunities then you have to take them. It sparks a whole other game.

“In the second half Verona put us under pressure and it’s not nice to concede a goal at the death. You just look at the result, whereas I look at the performance.”
