Zebina: 'Juve-Roma a work of art'

Jonathan Zebina has become a fine art expert after retirement and describes Juventus-Roma as a football masterpiece.

It kicks off at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.

Former Roma defender Zebina has taken on a curious post-football career, becoming a fine art dealer with his own gallery.

“Fabio Capello accelerated my move into this world,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Our Roma had the physical strength of Samuel and Batistuta, the pace of Cafu and the moves of our captain. The team was muscular and refined, like the magnificent bodies of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.”

It is not only the team of the past that inspires Zebina into such comparisons, but also the current stars who will face off today.

“Gigi Buffon is the only goalkeeper who ever really deserved the Ballon d’Or. He has charisma and sensibility, the essence of his role, a living tribute to Jerry Siegel, the comic book artist who invented Superman.

“Francesco Totti, however, is efficiency. He does the right thing, always. He embraces the city he loves, like Bernini who designed the columns of St Peter’s Basilica.

“As for the Coaches, Rudi Garcia was already an artist in France, but I was sceptical because Roma is like an arena: it’s life or death. He learned to live with that balance, like the Napoleon of Jacques Louis David: a conqueror.

“Massimiliano Allegri and his slender frame remind me of a Modigliani painting. You cannot ask him to be a Capello or a Conte, forever furious on the touchline. Elegance and beautiful football are his characteristics.

“If he did better than the past, it really would be a masterpiece to show in a gallery.”
