Berti Vogts expresses his fondness for Italy and asserts they will have ‘many chances’ to defeat his Azerbaijan, but that his players will hold no fear.

The 67-year-old will take his latest national team to the Renzo Barbera for tomorrow evening’s Euro 2016 qualifier aware of the difficulties ahead, but with a positive mindset for his surroundings.

“Everyone knows that I love Italian football and I was sorry for their World Cup campaign,” Vogts began to reporters today.

“It is nice to be here, I have come to Italy several times before both to watch games and for pleasure. The sea in Italy is amazing.

“Italy are strong and will have many chances to win tomorrow. They have a particular technique, they are strong and tactically very disciplined.

“I love the new Italy under Conte. I met him in St Petersburg a few days ago.

“His team now has a new direction and certainly they are able to quickly switch from the defensive phase to the attacking one.

“The attacking pair of Immobile and Zaza is formidable. They are fast and excellent finishers.

“Azerbaijan’s chances? We are without the two players who are based in Turkey because they are not in condition. But to my boys I will say one thing – we must be afraid.

“At 18, all become men. I was 17 when I played against Mazzola and I was not afraid. Those who are afraid cannot choose this sport.”
