Demetrio Albertini is against FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio’s plans to introduce video replays into Serie A games.

Tavecchio made his position clear this week with a formal letter to FIFA President Sepp Blatter, offering to make Italy a guinea pig for new technology systems from next season.

“When we’re talking about whether the ball crossed the line then I am in favour, but as for video replays during a game I disagree with that,” Albertini told Sky Sport Italia.

“We must start to accept the error component that is part of sport.”

Albertini was beaten by Tavecchio in the FIGC Presidential election in August, despite the winning candidate making racist comments that later earned him a six-month UEFA ban.

“I knew the election was all but decided when I signed up. Some Presidents contacted me because they wanted to introduce changes, which then did not happen.

“The important thing now is the desire to change, as Italian football is not progressing at the same pace as the rest of Europe. I can only hope Tavecchio does good things for Italian football.”

Albertini had remained on as Vice-President of the FIGC, but resigned last week.
