Hernanes: 'Inter's season starts now'

Hernanes believes Inter’s “season begins from this moment” after a 2-2 draw with Napoli. “We were on the edge of a precipice.”

His late header snatched a 2-2 draw for the Nerazzurri, perhaps saving Walter Mazzarri from the sack, as they had been trailing twice.

“We talked about it in the locker room and said we looked like a real team at last. We communicated more on the field too,” the Brazilian told Sky Sport Italia.

“At times these moments arrive when you need to pull out that determination from within yourself and turn around a difficult situation.

“Speaking personally, I am starting to get into my physical top form and that’s very important for me. When I’m fit, I can be sharp and do more of what I’m capable of.

“After going behind twice, we managed to bring home a point. It’s not enough, but it is a sign that the team is taking shape.

“I can feel the season is beginning from this moment for us. Were we on the edge of a precipice? Yes, absolutely. We could not get it wrong today.

“We tried everything in the first half and couldn’t break through, as Napoli are a good team too. The run from the back is co-ordinated with the wingers, you get there at the right agreed-upon moment.”

Hernanes also celebrated with his trademark backflip, but at the age of 29 is it not time to take it easy?

“No, it’s like riding a bicycle. You never forget how to do it.”
