Aquilani: I want to stay, but…

Alberto Aquilani has reflected that his intention is to stay at Fiorentina and the club know that, but there are no real developments on his contract talks.

The midfielder has faced increasing speculation over the progress of negotiations to extend his deal beyond its expiry next June.

“Things are pretty steady. There is no major news,” Aquilani has offered to Sky Sport Italia today.

“Honestly at the moment I am not thinking about it much. The intention is to stay and the President knows that.

“There is dialogue between people who know what they want. We will have to wait.

“Ending my career with Fiorentina? I am considering it, but in football you cannot say these things because everything can change overnight.

“I’m a realist. I am happy here, I’m happy with the fans, my teammates and the Coach. This city has entered my heart.”

The midfielder can face one of his former teams this weekend when the Viola travel out to Milan.

“Historically they are a team that have always aimed upwards and compete for major trophies. It will not be easy but we will try to confirm what we have demonstrated in the previous three years.

“I have fond memories of Milan, where I was happy. The club remains great, although in the past for me.

“Fernando Torres is a crazy talent, a real phenomenon - we were together at Liverpool, he is a great guy.

“Inzaghi? He has rules and discipline in his blood. I wish him well, but from Monday onwards!”
