The goalkeeper was the revelation of last season, playing 16 times in Serie A and being earmarked as the heir to Gianluigi Buffon but has struggled for playing time this season, failing to make a single League appearance.

Scuffet’s exclusion has surprised many, but the 18-year-old insists he’s not thinking of leaving the Zebrette and reveals he turned down Atletico Madrid.

“This year I’m not playing as much as last season, also I’ve had some injuries which have slowed my progress," the shot-stopper told Sky.

“Now I’m recovering and I want to give the Coach [Andrea Stramaccioni] a headache.

“I turned down Atletico Madrid in the summer because I preferred to continue my development at Udinese, a club which has helped me a lot.

“I’m working with the club to be fit and ready for the most important games.

“Do I regret not going to Atletico? I’m happy with the choices I made, I’ll stay in Udine in the January transfer window too.”
