Sinisa Mihajlovic felt Sampdoria’s 2-2 draw with Udinese was a fair result. “At least the fans enjoyed themselves.”

“It was certainly better to win, but both teams played for the victory and not to avoid defeat, so the fans enjoyed themselves,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a black-out in which we conceded two goals, were a little too stretched out after the break and I had to make some tactical adjustments. We were always in their half and had chances, but so did they with Geijo hitting the post.

“It was an entertaining match and I told the lads I couldn’t have asked for more. The result was fair. We knew that we could struggle on set plays, as we are missing two centre-backs. Udinese did well, were smart and did what we have done to other teams in the past.”

Manolo Gabbiadini was on target in probably his final game for Samp, as he’s on the verge of a move to Napoli.

This week Joaquin Correa arrived in Genoa to undergo a medical for his transfer from Estudiantes.

“I don’t know. We’ll see what we get and what we lose. As far as I know, Manolo hasn’t signed for Napoli, so until that happens he is still our player, then we’ll see if he stays or goes.

“I dropped him for a few games because he didn’t have the right grit and determination I wanted. He realised that too and it worked, as after a few benches he played with more aggression and realised he is only important when he plays like Gabbiadini.”

Udinese assistant manager – and Mihajlovic’s good friend – Dejan Stankovic was sent off for dissent and they had a jokey conversation on the way off.

“They kicked him out and he was trying to justify himself with me, as if I’d sent him off! He was very upset as it was his third dismissal for dissent, but I don’t know what happened.”
