Lazio President Claudio Lotito said his team goes into “three Punic Wars” against Sampdoria, Roma and Napoli.
The Biancocelesti begin 2015 with a series of very tough Serie A fixtures as they try to hang on to third place.
“The conclusive phase of the first half of the season will be a decisive race for Europe and the chance to express our real quality,” Lotito told news agency ANSA.
“We are faced with three very important matches: Samp, Roma and Napoli. These are three Punic Wars, during which it’s necessary to show our muscles and give our best on a psychological and sporting level.
“It is our duty towards our history and to bring back to our fans the glory that they deserve.”
Lotito is known for his cultured references and in this case mentioned the Punic Wars – three battles waged between Rome and Carthage from 264 to 164 BC.
