Samp: 'Eto'o wants to join us'

Director Carlo Osti confirmed Samuel Eto’o “wants to join Sampdoria. He is negotiating with Everton.”

The statement was made on Sky Sport Italia late Tuesday evening by Blucerchiati director of sport Osti.

“Our agreement with Eto’o has almost been finalised. He wants to join Sampdoria, those are his intentions.

“He is currently negotiating with Everton to resolve his contract with them. Everton are looking for a replacement.

“It might take a day more than expected, but we are moderately optimistic on Eto’o and hope he can arrive as soon as possible.

“I think Eto’o is a player of great character who can only help this group of mature players grow even more.”

These quotes were also tweeted by the official Sampdoria account.

Today Everton manager Roberto Martinez insisted there was no “imminent” chance of the Cameroon legend leaving the club.

Osti had previously stated that Eto’o would arrive in Genoa to complete the transfer on Tuesday, but that did not happen.
