Cassano was included in the squad despite taking legal action against the club on Friday for six months of outstanding wages.
However, Coach Roberto Donadoni said he’d make his own decisions and has left FantAntonio on the bench for perhaps the most important game of the season.
Instead, he gives new signings Varela and Rodriguez their debuts from the start, just days after completing loan moves from West Ham and Atletico Madrid respectively.
Alessandro Lucarelli is suspended for the hosts, while Cesena have Giuseppe De Feudis sitting out a ban.
