The Grifone were furious after a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina today, which saw Khouma Babacar offside in the build-up to Gonzalo Rodriguez’s equaliser.

There was a protest before the game about recent refereeing errors, so fans and club directors didn’t walk into the stands until 10 minutes in.

“Once again today we were unlucky with the officiating,” said Coach Gasperini to Sky Sport Italia.

“We played very well, were superior to Fiorentina in many areas and deserved all three points. We have many regrets, as with a win we would’ve caught them in the table.

“I realise offsides are difficult to spot, but there is no doubt that we conceded five irregular goals in the last four games.

“I don’t want to keep pushing on this issue of the referees, but these are statistics. You can’t argue with the numbers.

“Clearly either we stay silent or we get angry. Napoli scored two irregular goals against us and we had one good one. If they wanted to beat us, I don’t care how much possession or how many chances they created, they should’ve scored regular goals.”

President Preziosi was less diplomatic in his post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“Refereeing errors do count, because there are interests and the table to safeguard. In football the team that plays the best football doesn’t always win, but the issue of errors is a serious one.

“When these incidents happen against Genoa, they are minimised in the media. The reporters should treat all mistakes the same way, otherwise we are no longer discussing football.

“The fairy-tale of errors evening themselves out over the course of a season needs to be abandoned. If you keep drawing or losing when you should’ve won, it has an effect on the morale of the team.

“In recent weeks we haven’t won because of errors that were not our fault.”
